Elephants are like humans in many ways.  Like humans, they are long-lived, intelligent,
adaptable, highly social animals that require prodigious amounts of space and resources.
However, our similar natures and needs also make us competitors.
Our growing numbers and ever increasing demand for space and resources put us in direct conflict with elephants,
and indeed, many other life forms.  Until our species curbs its numbers and demands on nature,
numbers of wild elephants will necessarily continue to diminish.
Hopefully, we can use our intelligence and adaptability to save these magnificent creatures and the habitats that support them.
But, time is short.
