This type of duck makes its nest in hollowed out trees.  It also may use nest boxes that people set up for them along water.  The male’s glossy, colorful plumage and sleek crest are distinctive.  The female has a large white teardrop-shaped eye patch.  The female makes a squealing call in flight.
