This duck has a puffy rounded crest with a thin bill.  The male has white head patches that are fan shaped and conspicuous when its crest is raised.  The female is brownish overall.  Both the male and female show black and white on the inner wings.  These ducks have serrated bills that help them catch fish, crustaceans, and aquatic insects.
