Growing up, I was taught about the migratory birds passing along the eastern coast as they stopped in my backyard while making their journey.  Studying the birds in Costa Rica made the great distance of migration real when I saw birds like the house wren and the spotted sandpiper there in the tropical rain forest. However, these birds that I love in my own backyard will not be there if their homes are not protected - both in Costa Rica and here in North America.  Through conservation, we will preserve the beauty and joy of these birds, as well as their importance in the the larger eco-system.
