Coral Bleaching

  • Coral Bleaching occurs when coral in the reef is stressed.
  • Things that stress coral include increased water temperature, over fishing, increased sunlight, wind, disease, starvation, and contact with air.
  • Higher temperatures are the most common cause of bleaching; if the temperature is 1-2C higher than average, coral may bleach.
