Dear Fredrick,
Greetings from China!
I was talking to my grandmother
and she said that when she was a little
girl the hills were all forest and there
were pandas in the forests. I found out
that we had a panda sanctuary just
outside of the city. My teacher brought
a volunteer from the sanctuary to tell
us about it. I feel better knowing there
are still bamboo forests.
The volunteer was telling
us about how greenhouse gas from cars is
making the earth warmer and the bamboo
that the pandas eat are slowly dying
because the climate is getting too dry.
The bamboo can’t move north where it is
cooler because the cities and farms
break up the habitat. Does this climate
change mean that the panda won’t be able
to survive? Should I ask my parents to
volunteer at the sanctuary to help them?
